• Fishing from the Ocean Crest Pier or in the surf [Oak Island Pier is closed in 2017, but the restaurant remains open]

• Drive or bicycle to the western end of the island and broad beaches, great for sunsets
  
• Shopping in Southport
• Cruises, Fishing Charters and Boat Rentals at Bluepoint Marina
  
• Take the ferry from Southport to Ft. Fisher Park and the NC Aquarium 
• Tour the Battleship USS North Carolina Memorial, near Wilmington
  
• Take the ferry to Bald Head Island and rent bikes
  
• Orton Plantation Gardens [presently closed for renovation]
